This is an un-treated, not pressed piece of the amber. Amber is an organic material which contains natural oils, succinic acid and inclusions.
Amber is a 40-60 million year old fossil resin of extinct pine trees. The ancient romans, greeks and egyptians took difficult treks to the baltic sea coast to acquire amber for use as jewellery and used in medicines. The romans believed contact with the stone guaranteed a youthful look. It is believed that rubbing the back of the neck, the wrist and temples with amber where the pulse is felt may help in heart and circulatory diseases as well as headaches and tiredness.
