The color appears best when sunlight is shining on rather than through the piece and is due to the natural, untreated, chemical fluorescent properties of the amber. One side of the amber fossil is fully polished while the remainder remains in the rough as mined. The color may vary depending upon how sunlight is striking it also. The piece weighs 123 grams (615 carats) and has a length of 115 mm, a width of 60 mm and 30 mm height.
NOTE: 25.4 mm is 1 inch. Studies are currently being done to determine the source plant(s) of this material. It is acquired from coal mining usually. Indonesian amber is a beautiful, all-natural amber from fossil trees that exhibits a rich range of colors. Indonesian amber is a recent find. This amber possesses a beautiful, deep green color that sometimes can appear as violet (purple).
I also offer blue and green amber from other areas of Indonesia. The color can rival that of the finest Dominican and Chiapas (Mexican) amber. It was mined from the earth in the Indonesian province of Sumatra or Sumatera (western region). No treatment of any kind was done to this to enhance the color. I may also have pieces of West Kalimantan Borneo Blue amber, Sulawesi Blue amber, and West Papua Blue amber for sale which exhibits a unique blue sometimes violet color also.
A piece such as this would make a great addition to any fossil or gemstone collection. Lastly, I do not mark merchandise values below their true value or mark items as gifts. And International government regulations prohibit such behavior. Honesty is the best option.
I only sell genuine, all-natural, non-heat treated, reconstituted, or color enhanced amber. This piece could be used as a specimen or in a piece of jewelry. Thank you for your consideration. Please note that the saltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink. However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My feedback should help demonstrate this.
