Baltic Amber was traded to Africa along the ancient Amber Route since antiquity. Pressed amber is natural amber heated and pressed into a more regular shape than untreated amber. The beads in this listing are more regular in shape than untreated amber. The beads are massive and carry with them a sense of history and ethnic beauty. This is an antique collectible item, coveted by jewelry designers. It dates approximately to the early to mid 19th century. Natural amber fluoresces under UV light, and the UV test is a common test to distinguish natural amber from synthetic imitations such as phenolic resin or plastic. These beads are becoming increasingly scarce and we are fortunate to be able to offer this rarity.
There are two options to choose from. Strand A has more of smaller beads, strand B has fewer but more massive, heavier beads.
