A Strand of Antique Natural Pressed Baltic Amber From the African Trade C2V AMB

A Strand of Antique Natural Pressed Baltic Amber From the African Trade (C2V_AMB_0921). This listing is for one strand of large antique pressed amber beads from West Africa.

Baltic Amber was traded to Africa along the ancient Amber Route since antiquity. Pressed amber is natural amber heated and pressed into a more regular shape than untreated amber. The beads in this listing are more regular in shape than untreated amber. The beads are massive and carry with them a sense of history and ethnic beauty. This is an antique collectible item, coveted by jewelry designers. It dates approximately to the early to mid 19th century. Good antique condition; the beads are well worn.

Please see the photos for the details. These are the photos of these beads under UV light. Natural amber fluoresces under UV light, and the UV test is a common test to distinguish natural amber from synthetic imitations such as phenolic resin or plastic. These beads are becoming increasingly scarce and we are fortunate to be able to offer this rarity.

There are two options to choose from. Strand A has more of smaller beads, strand B has fewer but more massive, heavier beads.

Strand A: 18", 264 g, 15 beads ranging from 36x32mm to 13x23mm Strand B: 18", 504 g, 11 beads ranging from 58x39mm to 33x33mm Weights and sizes are approximate. In the world of beads, and especially ancient and antique beads, errors in identification are common.

We do our best to research and classify our beads accurately, however mistakes are certainly possible. We are always grateful for any new information. COLORS: Our photos are taken in different lighting in an attempt to show how beads look in different lighting conditions. We make every effort to show colors as accurately as possible.

The white background photos are taken in daylight conditions. The black background photos are taken in the strong lab light, and would be representative of what they would look like in the evening electric light. Some of the photos are backlit to emphasize their translucency. Note that monitor settings strongly affect the way the colors look.

What you see on your monitor may differ from what you see with a naked eye depending on your monitor settings. Strand A: 18, 264 g, 15 beads ranging from 36x32mm to 13x23mm.
